Everyone's input welcome

I've recently come across two products, both of which I use, that are soliciting ideas from the consumer...EVERY consumer. For Crest toothpaste, I just saw a commercial asking consumers to go to the website and submit an idea for a jingle. This type of solicitation is great given that not everyone knows about wikinomics and the concept of peer pioneering or prosumers. I'm sure Crest is offering some kind of incentive or at least bragging rights. The othe product advertising for consumer input is Oreo Cookies. They are asking that you go to their website and submit your favorite memory of the cookie. These are only a few examples...I'm sure there are more. Most of them I"m sure are not advertising the invitation but instead consumers are finding them on their own.

Nicki, both of these organizations are doing it right, so to speak. What a way to solicite possible advertising ideas from thousands (if not millions) of people for free? Mass collaboration is a great idea, as long as you have time to sift through all the ideas you get.

I would be interested in seeing how they handle the flood of input...

That is a great question. How do they sift through the suggestions? Surely there are some bogus ones. Maybe there is some kind of filter. I am guessing they must have some paid staff to tackle this intiative. Why do it if you are not going to do it right?

Thanks for the post!
